PCI Foundation Studio: Cylinder Casting Project
Collaborative student teams of architecture and building construction science students at Mississippi State University designed a diverse set of concrete mixes and then created concrete test cylinders in January 2021 to explore the properties of precast concrete as part of the Studio grant awarded to Associate Professor Alexis Gregory in the School of 91自拍.
The students worked together in the Thomas Little Collaborative Studio, which is a collaboration between the School of 91自拍 and Building Construction Science Program, and the Structures II course.
Assistant Professor Silvina Lopez Barrera, Building Services Coordinator Scott Hudspeth, and Shop Technician Charles Beckham also helped to coordinate the creation of the concrete test cylinders.
Professor Isaac Howard and graduate student Grayson Brown, with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, tested the cylinders and provided data on the testing for the students.
The students will continue working together to create concrete disks using what they learned from the concrete test cylinder project. These concrete discs will be tested on Tues., Feb. 23.
