Art Transfer Students

Art Transfer Students

I want to transfer to Mississippi State University. I interested in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.

Admissions

Apply to Mississippi State University and indicate Art-Undeclared (UART) as your preferred major.

What courses will transfer?

As part of the articulation agreement between Mississippi junior and community colleges and the state鈥檚 four-year universities, the following courses will automatically transfer to Mississippi State. A grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better is required in each course in order for it to be accepted by the Mississippi State Department of Art:

The department head, a foundations professor, or academic records assistant within the Department of Art may advise the student to retake one or more courses if doing so will improve the student鈥檚 technique and/or skill level and increase their chances of a successful concentration portfolio review. Students are encouraged to submit work for review via our online

To receive transfer credit for art classes not covered by the articulation agreement between Mississippi junior and community colleges, each class must be approved by the coordinator of the area in which the course falls under: foundations, drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, painting, ceramics, graphic design or art history. If the transfer credit is not approved, the student must enroll in the Mississippi State art course in order to receive required credits.

Submission for approval for these courses can also be submitted to our online

Foundation Portfolio Review Requirements

All art majors are required to participate in the Foundation Portfolio Review.

For students interested in the fine arts concentration (ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture emphases), the Foundation Portfolio Review will take place in the spring semester of each year. The review consists of a faculty evaluation of student work from a minimum of 18 credit hours completed in the following courses: Drawing I, Drawing II, Design I, Design II, 3-D Design and Introduction to Computing for Art. The Foundation Portfolio Review will result in an "accept" or "deny" into the fine arts concentration.

For students interested in the photography concentration, the Foundation Portfolio Review will take place in the fall semester of each year. The review consists of a faculty evaluation of student work from a minimum of 18 credit hours completed in the following courses: Drawing I, Drawing II, Design I, Design II, 3-D Design and Photography Survey. The Foundation Portfolio Review will result in an 鈥渁ccept鈥 or 鈥渄eny鈥 into the photography concentration.

For students interested in graphic design, the Foundation Portfolio Review for entrance into that concentration will take place in the fall semester of each year. The review consists of a faculty evaluation of student work from a minimum of 18 credit hours completed in the following courses: Drawing I, Drawing II, Design I, Design II, 3-D Design and Introduction to Computing for Art. The Foundation Portfolio Review will result in an 鈥渁ccept鈥 or 鈥渄eny鈥 in the graphic design concentration.

Students accepted (by faculty evaluation) into the fine arts, graphic design or photography concentration may begin the concentration sequence of courses. Students denied may remain in the art program and resubmit a portfolio in the next review. Students cannot pursue a concentration in which they have been denied twice. They will have to choose another concentration in order to pursue a BFA at Mississippi State.

Tuition and Fees

Mississippi State University鈥檚 affordable tuition provides an excellent return on your investment, combining competitive costs with the best academics, research, student life and career preparation.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts undergraduate degree program has some additional fees required for materials, technology and laboratory materials to enhance an art student鈥檚 education that are automatically assessed. The Mississippi State University Department of Art strives to offer comparatively low lab fees thanks to support from alumni and friends.
